MARCHANKA Natallia

GDYNIA player

27 Mar 2009 POLAND "Hard work will eventually pay off"!
Natallia, the current season is your first one in a Euroleague team and you became one of the Assist Leaders in this league. How do you like playing at this level?
Playing in Euroleague was a great experience for me! The best European teams as well as players allow you to compete at highest possible level during the regular season. I enjoyed the games a lot and looking forward to continue my career at this level.

You already had some experience of playing in the Polish Championship. In your opinion, how did the level of Polish teams and of the National Championship in general change in recent years?
The Polish Championship got much stronger in recent years. Many teams in the League have experienced top-class European and American players who definitely bring the competition up.

The National Team of Belarus made a splash in the European Basketball by taking the 3rd place at Eurobasket 2007. And you joined the TOP 5 players of Europe then. What are the ambitions of your National Team now? How do they prepare for the Eurobasket 2009 in Latvia?
As a member of the Belarussian National Team, I'm extremely proud of our achievements in past couple years including the unforgettable Olympic Games in Beijing last summer. There is a big tournament in Latvia ahead of us for which we start preparing right after the season is over. Our ambition is well-known - to get a medal of some kind other than bronze (since we already have it (laughing)!

What are your personal ambitions and plans in sports? What titles are you dreaming of?
My personal ambitions have always been related to the team I'm playing for - whether it's a club team or my National Team. It's a team sport where the outcome depends on every player, coach, stuff, etc. That's why I'm always there for my teammates - on and off the basketball court. Personally, I would like to continue playing in Euroleague next season, and help my National Team to do as best as we can in Latvia!

If we look back, are you happy with the place of your career? Do you think that you always took right decisions? Are you happy to have bound your life with sports?
I'm very grateful to be a pro-athlete, a basketball player. Basketball gave me opportunity to get my education in the US, meet new people, travel, and of course, to be financially independent. Concerning my decisions - I never judge myself by right or wrong - any experience or mistake is a reason to learn from and keep marching on... I also think that my career, like any other's, has it's ups and downs, but I have always looked at it as my full-time job where I have to work hard day in and day out in order to be successful on the court. As I always say "hard work will eventually pay off".
