Her dream is coming true... |

Jada, you had a successful college career and now you decided to get involved in a professional career. Is playing professionally like a dream for you? Playing professional basketball is something I have dreamed of since I was old enough to dribble a ball. I have a WNBA poster that I hung on the door of my bedroom when I was just 13 years old. I hung it there as a reminder of why I played and where I wanted to be several years down the line. Although, it is not the WNBA, I feel as though my dream is coming true. I always said that I would be a professional basketball player, but what is more important - I believed that I could be. It is such a great feeling to see my belief in my safe and all of my hard work to be paid off.
What do you expect from the first season in Europe? From the first season in Europe I am not quite sure what to expect. I do plan to approach this situation just as I approached my freshman year in college, being aware that it is a completely different level of basketball and that I must work hard in order to compete and be an asset to my team. When being introduced to a new league and team you often have to prove that you are worthy of being there, which is what I hope to do. One thing that I am certain of is that the level of the competition will be high, which somewhat heightens my excitement about playing basketball professionally. I think that it will be an exciting experience for me and I look forward to playing my first season.
In which country would you like to play? I never really considered which country I would like to play in; I just knew that I wanted to play. However, if I had to choose I would probably say France. I have heard that it is a wonderful place to visit and live. When I think about France I immediately think of Paris and the Eiffel Tower. This is a place and a site that I would love to see. Although I do not know a whole lot about France, I have learned that it is not a violent country and that the crime rate is fairly low. This is of great importance to me considering the fact that I will be in an unfamiliar area and away from my family. It will feel much more comforting to live and play in a country that I can feel safe in. Furthermore, France is an extravagant place, and I would love to be able to say that I live in France.
Aren't you too afraid to leave your country and your family? I must say that I am a little afraid of being removed from the things and the people that I have known all of my life. However, I am fully aware that this is a huge opportunity for me and fear is only a minor thought. The support of my family and friends is going to make this transition much easier for me. My faith and passion for the game will not allow me to be fearful of such an opportunity as this one. I am extremely excited and anticipating the journey.
Do you have any favorite player or at least a player to look up to? Alana Beard has been my favorite player since her career at Duke. I look up to Alana not only because she is a great basketball player, but also because I saw her as a great person. I admired how hard she worked, how much of a leader she was, and the amount of passion that showed up in her performance. Another thing that I love about Alana is that no matter how big her name was, she always remained humble. She?s been my idol and inspiration for a while now, and it is still a dream of mine to be the type of a player and a leader that she has always been. |
