After a succesful season last year in the Euroleague and in the Italian Championship, I guess it might have been disapointing to lose in the final? Yes, of course! It was even more disappointing because, in my opinion, I think we had the possibility to win the final. We lost three times in the same way, that is to say in the final five minutes of the game and every time for the same reasons.
Was it mental? Yes, but also tactical.
For what reasons did you decide not to play the Euroleague this season? Our club is the only one in Italy composed of a men's team and a women's one, and both are professional. So, crisis is crisis, all around the world, and our budget is a little bit lower, so for that reason the owners decided that it's better to compete well in the Italian championship.
Do you think it's possible for a club to have both a strong men's team and a strong women's one? Right now it's difficult, but last season we proved it as both teams fought to win the championship.
At least it's a good promotion for Basketball in Venezia... Sure, we sold 300000 tickets for the entire last season.
What do you think about the level of the Italian Championship this season? With the crisis, unfortunately, the teams from the second division who were supposed to reach the first division were unable to do it, so, the federation had to reduce the number of the teams from 14 to 12. In my opinion, the level of the championship is a little bit higher than last season because each team worries about not going down to the second division, so they signed really good players. I don't think that any team, wether it is Venezia, Taranto or Schio, will have easy games this season. The teams who don't play well can lose everything. |
